Japanese-inspired Food Education Course for University Students

Are you looking for a unique program for your students? We are offering an online on-demand Japanese inspired food education course for university students and are looking for 20+ teachers to collaborate with us for the 2024-25 school year. The course will be provided for free to the selected schools.
*Application is open till May 31st 2024.

Through this course, your students will learn the principles of Japanese cuisine and food culture. They will also gain the skills required to prepare healthy, nutritious foods to strengthen our bodies and minds as well as learn about food related issues around the world.

The program can be adapted according to your lesson plans. You don't need to use all of the content provided and can use any parts of the course based on your needs.


ABOUT THE ONLINE PROGRAM

The course consists of six lessons that focus on different topics to introduce students to Japanese food culture and foodways. Each lesson has ten mini-sessions that include: healthy and balanced cooking, educational and entertaining original content short videos (including a fun cook-off battle), Fit Tidbit (Nutrition information), Japanese manners and customs, local and global food-related issues and short review quizzes. There are discussion questions at the end of each lesson for students to interact with teachers and other students with comments or by uploading photos.  

  • The program can be adapted according to your lesson plans. You don't need to use all of the content provided and can use any parts of the course based on your needs. Cooking the recipes is optional and not required for participation.

  • The course is mainly written in English and some Japanese content has been added for university students learning Japanese. Students can type comments in English or Japanese as needed.

  • Students will register for the course for free by using a coupon code that will be provided by us.

  • We encourage participating teachers to share their lesson plans using this course so that other teachers can become familiarized with how to utilize this course.

  • Based on your feedback, we would like to continue improving the course.

  • We occasionally have an opportunity to collaborate to provide online live workshops via Zoom etc to your students which includes a presentation about a topic and an interactive cooking class. When we have an opportunity, we will reach out to participating schools.

•   Lesson 2: B-kyu Gourmet Popular Japanese Food - Okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancakes) / Ramen, Global food imbalance

•   Lesson 3: Soy - Zunda (edamame sweets), Inari sushi / Miso soup, #EdamameChamp, Food sustainability

•   Lesson 4: Bento - Tamagoyaki (Japanese omelet / Octopus Shaped hot dog (cute!), plus other delicious bento box elements, Food deserts, Mottainai

•   Lesson 5: Food from the Sea - Salmon teriyaki / Shrimp, Avocado, Cucumber Sushi roll / Wakame salad, Food waste, Mottainai Grandma

•   Lesson 6: Sweets - Dorayaki (sweet-filled pancakes) / Anmitsu, Health issues and Japanese tea culture
